We have known for a long time that truck/auto exhaust fumes are bad for our health – after all, people commit suicide using this method! We have known there are heart and lung issues caused by motor vehicle pollution. It now seems that this exhaust can even affect your erections.
A study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine demonstrated that rats exposed to vehicle exhaust (VE) developed Erectile Dysfunction at an alarming rate.
The study found that exposure to VE caused inflammation, and had significant negative effects on lung capacity, endothelial function, and production of Nitric Oxide (the chemical responsible for starting erections)!
While this study is with rats, it provides enough information that we need to be cautious when it comes to being aware of environmental pollution and its effects on our health. If you live or work around traffic or exhaust, be aware of the long-term risks.
Erectile dysfunction can be caused by a variety of health issues.
